Perennial (short-lived perennial to USDA zone 5, treated as an annual in colder climates). A popular plant in early American gardens including those of Thomas Jefferson, rose campion has been loved through generations for its striking magenta flowers in spring, and year-round rosette of wooly, silvery gray foliage. A truly hardy plant, it requires very little maintenance, needs only occasional water, and will grow almost anywhere, even in gravel! Self-sows readily.
